For those of you that want to better understand what’s what in biofuels, National Geographic magazine’s October issue provides an brief but informative backgrounder by Joel K. Bourne Jr. (see Green Dreams, October 2007).
The article does a very good job of illustrating the different sources of ethanol and bio diesel and their potential costs and benefits. Overall, it reinforces the need to move beyond corn based ethanol and food-crop based biodiesel.
(While the on-line version does not provide all of the text of the print version, it does showcase interactive information boxes for each fuel together with the authors audio commentary.)
Enjoy.
